Beginning Level 1 - Skirt

This class will teach you additional basics of basic sewing techniques. This particular pattern (see below) introduces hemming and creating a fabric casing for an elastic insert. Optional: decorating skirt with trim.

Beginning Sewing:

1. Laying out fabric

2. Layout pattern pieces

3. Pin and cut out fabric
4. Simple seams

5. Hemming

Age range: 7-12

Cost: $25/student/session

Materials to bring:

1. Sewing machine

2. Simplicity Pattern (see below)

3. Thread to match fabric

4. Fabric of your choice (according to pattern instructions) and elastic (per pattern instructions)

5. Seam ripper

6. Pin cushion

7. Straight and large safety pins

8. Scissors

9. Seam gauge

10. (Or basic sewing kit available at Jo-Ann's or Wal-Mart)

11. Fabric available for purchase from teacher.
